A chimney sweeps guide on how to light your fire when it is cold!
Light your fire when it is cold or smoking |
This can happen when you get a cold chimney flue and the cold air blocks the hot air, this prevents the hot smoke from leaving the chimney and the only root for the smoke is back into the room.
Try this quick fix to push out the cold plug out of the chimney.
Try preheat your flue before lighting the fire. This can be done by using a smokeless form of heat to create an updraught for the smoke to follow when you light your fire.
Below is 5 common methods to pre-heat your chimney when it's cold.
1) Electric heater aimed up the flue for 10+ minutes.2) Blowtorch for 5+ minutes.
3) Bundle of Firelighters lit on there own.
4) Hair dryer for 5+ minutes.
5) Camping stove for 5+ minutes.
If pre-heating does not resolve your problem, you may have a blockage or fault and you should seek advice from a Professional Chimney Sweep.
